Call for Book Proposals

Historical and Cultural Interconnections between Latin America and Asia
Books may focus on the presence of different Asian groups throughout the Americas (including borderlands), as well as on their cultural production. Some will also have a hemispheric approach, comparing the experience of Asian populations throughout the Americas. Other studies may concentrate on the imaging of Asians in literature, media, and the visual arts, including film. We also accept proposals of volumes of essays originating from academic conferences. Some studies are now being veered toward the presence of Asian-Latin Americans in the US.
Some books may negotiate cultural difference and propose a decolonial knowledge that repositions contemporary the culture of some Latin American countries as transnational. These studies could explore how writing, film, art, and other cultural discourses ultimately provide these communities with a voice and a collective agency. In some cases these alternative knowledges are intrinsically related to a will to power.
Historical studies will contest the dichotomy that limits Latin American culture to the traditional confrontation between the indigenous and coastal/criollo worldviews, and Caribbean/Brazilian cultures to the black/white binary.
